Ragnar Relay, Town's Inaugural Half Marathon
Certain To Make Running Fun In Cottage Grove
Last Updated: January 18, 2012
While it is uncertain where the exact start is for the April 21 inaugural Spring Parkinson's Half Marathon it is known that runners will funnel into the Glacial Drumlin trailhead and travel at least across Uphoff and Ridge roads.
The Town waived an application fee, but required the purchase of a parade procession race permit, and that the race coordinators produce and submit letters to residents along the race course informing them of the path and duration of the 13.1 mile trek.
The Board also gave thumbs up for a parade procession permit allowing the Ragnar Relay Chicago to make a return appearance in Town on June 8. This will be the third year the running relay race from Madison to Chicago will bring racers through Cottage Grove and this year is anticipated to be bigger than ever.
They are estimating 5,800 people this year, said Supervisor Mike Kindschi adding that it used to be 400 or 500. Adding to the entertainment of hundreds of runners streaming through the Town is the odd garb that many are expected to be wearing. Supervisor Steve Anders has become a fan of the race the past two years and plans to be sitting in his lawn chair in front of his home again this year watching the racers file by, offering water to those who want it. And the only payment he asked for is the opportunity to watch runners pass by in crazy costumes. "It's free entertainment."
