2012 Town Budget Passed

Last Updated: November 24, 2011

Town electors approved the 2012 budget, including highway expenditures of $595,105 and a $477,619 tax levy--a .42 percent increase from 2011.

A large portion of the discussion centered a continuation of debate earlier in the meeting about allocation of $5,000 to the Village’s recreation program.  Abiding by the decisions made in those earlier discussions, the Town reoriented some funds by reversing an earlier budget negotiation by the Board to transfer $5,000 from the recreation budget to the highway maintenance budget. They also decided to take another $594 from highway maintenance and place it into the Colonial Club, a Cottage Grove senior program.

Chairman Kris Hampton noted a change to the coming year’s budget, saying that a $16,079 expenditure from Dane County’s DaneCom would be added for maintenance costs for its 911 center. “It goes up after that because next year’s their warranty year,” said Hampton, adding that other than that, most budget items stayed pretty close to the same as last year.

The 2012 budget will also add $13,292 in revenues for money received through a local road improvement grant.  This grant used to bring the Town $20,000 annually in additional funds, said Public Works Head Jeff Smith.  But in recent years that amount has decreased as more municipalities are vying for the fund, therefore the funds are being dispersed over a wider range of communities.
