Nora Road Remains Rustic

Nora Road’s rustic road designation will remain intact.

This due to a 4 to 1 vote of the Board, at its October 17, which denied designation removal.

Talk of the removal started with Board concern when Dane County became involved in a land use debate between Nora Road neighbors. the Town concerned that the County was going to use the rustic designation as a way to establish land development rules on Nora Road landowners.  The Town’s decision to keep the road rustic came after hearing that Dane County Board members refrained from implementing  restrictions on rezoning requests made for two Nora Road properties owned by Marc Lea.

Another one of Lea’s Nora Road properties was the one that sparked the debate which eventually, to Town Board members' dismay, gained the County Board’s attention. There were a few Nora Road residents at the meeting to hear the Boards decision…a far cry from the crowd that filled the Town Hall meeting room at a September 6 public hearing on the topic.

Wondering if this was really the end of County involvement in the rustic road issue, Supervisor Mike Fonger, who was the sole dissenter on the 4 to 1 vote, asked what would happen if the County takes action after the Board’s decision.  “What happens now if Dane County comes up and says they’re going to add rules on the rustic road?”

Other Board members seemed less concerned that the issue would be rekindled, but Fonger who has been overtly vocal concerning the County’s involvement in the rustic road issue throughout didn’t seem convinced.
