The Women, Infants and Children of Dane County program will be setting up shop at the Town Hall from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. every second Friday starting in 2012.
The purpose of the satellite location is to be closer to the people served by the federal program. “Right now with budget cuts, we are looking at new ways to meet community needs,” said WIC Director for Dane County Karri Bartlett at the Board’s September 19 meeting. “We are proposing to eight communities around Madison to offer check pickups.” It’s here where Bartlett says program participants can pick up vouchers used to purchase food for their families. There are about 120 families in this region, and Bartlett said the visits will be brief and include a meeting with a nutritionist.
