Brown Thrush Trail Dead End Sign Request Denied

Last Updated: September 22, 2011

A citizen request for a dead end sign on Brown Thrush Trail was turned down by the Board at its September 19 meeting.

They were concerned that granting the sign request would trigger a rush of dead end sign requests. Another big roadblock was that there is no money in the public works budget to pay for the signs, which would cost about $60 for the sign and pole. After he heard about the request, Public Works Head Jeff Smith said he thought of about a dozen other roads where potential requests may come from. Chairman Kris Hampton said the citizen’s request came from concerns over the number of drivers coming down the road thinking there is an outlet.

Speeding concerns were also discussed, and when Supervisor Mike DuPlayee said that there was probably no issue with speeding since it was a dead-end, Supervisor Mike Kindschi disagreed.

“You would be surprised how many people go down a dead end wide open because they think it’s going all the way through. I’ve heard them go out into the corn field.” He said that on visits to the field he has even found parts of cars.
