Town To Work With Village To Replace Aging Culverts

Last Updated: September 13, 2011

The Town’s public works crew will work with the Village maintenance staff to reconstruct a culvert at Sandpiper Trail near Mourning Dove Drive.

The Town decided to replace the culverts after finding out that the Village would already be doing work to a nearby portion of the road.

Public Works Head Jeff Smith said he was unsure what the exact cost for the project would be.  The original estimate for the entire project was $8,800.  Smith said he decided that by having the Town contribute resources and personnel to the project they would save money.

Smith thought at that time it might be a good idea to replace the old culverts altogether rather than connecting the new portion to them as the Village originally considered. His reason being that the machines would already be onsite to do the work and replacing the aging culverts now might save the town from digging up the same spot to replace them in a few years.  The metal culverts are 30 years old, said Smith, who added that they are not shot now but he could not tell when they would have to be replaced.
